Google+ (Google Plus) is a multilingual social networking and identity service owned and operated by Google Inc. It is the second- largest social networking site in the world. It has approximate 359 million active users. As of May 2013, it had a total of 500 million registered users, of whom 235 million are active in a given month.

Google launched the Google+ service as an invitation- only “field test” on June 28, 2011, but soon suspended early inviters due to an “insane demand” for new accounts. On August 6, each Google+ member had 150 invitations to give out September 20, 2011, when Google+ opened to everyone 18 years of age or older without the need for an invitation. Google+ is an available as a website and on mobile devices. In the “Stream”, this occupies the middle of three columns on the page; users see updates from those in their Circles. There is an input box which allows users to enter a post. Along with the text entry field there are icons to upload and videos. “Circles” enable users to organize people into groups for sharing across various Google products and services.

Tumblr, stylized In its logo as tumblr. Is a micro blogging platform and social networking website owned and operated by Tumblr, Inc. the service allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog.
Users can follow other users’ blogs as well as make their blogs private. Much of the website’s features are accessed from the “dashboard” interface, where the option to post content and posts of followed blogs appear.
Development of Tumblr began in 2006 during a two week gap between contracts at David Karp’s Software consulting company. Davidville (housed at Karp’s former internship with producer/incubator Fred Seibert’s Federator Studios, which was located a block from Tumblr’s current headquarters).

In early June 2012, Tumblr featured its first major brand advertising campaign in conjunction with Adidas. Adidas launched an official soccer Tumblr blog and bought placements on the user dashboard.

Dashboard-The dashboard is the primary tool for the typical Tumblr user. It is a live feed of recent posts from blogs that they follow. Through the dashboard, users are able to comment, re blog, and like posts from other blogs that appear on their dashboard. Queue- Users are able to set up a schedule to delay posts that they make. They can spread their posts over several hours or even days.

Tags- For each post a user creates, he is able to help his audience find posts about certain topics by adding tags. HTML coding to control the appearance of their blog .A user is also able to use a custom domain name for his blog.

Flicker (pronounced “flicker”) is an image hosting and video hosting website, and web services suite that was created by Ludicorp in 2004 and acquired by Yahoo! In2005.

In addition to being a popular website for users to share and embed personal photographs, and effectively an online community, the services is widely used by photo researchers and by embed in blogs and social media.
 Flicker was launched in February 2004 by Ludicorp, a Vancouver-based company founded by Stewart Butterfield and Catherina Fake. The service emerged out of tools originally created for Ludicorp’s Game Never-ending, a web-based massively multiplayer online game.

In August 2011 the site reported that it was hosting more than 6 billion images and this number continues to grow steadily according to reporting sources. Photos and videos can be accessed from Flicker without the need to register an account but an account must be made in order to upload content onto the website. For mobile users, Flicker has official mobile apps for iOS, Android, Play Station Vita, and Windows Phone operating systems.
Flicker currently offers three types of accounts; Free, Ad Free and Doublers. The free option includes one terabyte of storage limited to 200 MB per video. The Ad Free option allows subscribers to avoid advertisements for an annual free. As the name suggests, the Doublers account includes two terabytes of storage.

Bebo is a social networking website launched in 2005. It is owned and operated by its founder Michael Birch who took over from Criterion Capital partners in July 2013.

Bebo was founded by Michael and Xochi Birch in January 2005 at their home in San Francisco. The website name was bought by the founders, and the back ronym “ Blog Early, Blog Often” was invented to answer the question of what the name meant.

Each Bebo User receives a profile, which must include two specific modules: a comment section where other users can leave a message, and a list of the user’s friends. Users can select from many more modules to add. By default, when an account is created the profile is private, which limits access to friends specifically added. On February 22, 2007, Bebo Authors, also known as Bebo Books, was launched. On this section of the site, authors can upload chapters of their books and also get them reviewed with a certain module.
On July 10, 2007, the “Group” module was added to pages. This enabled people to view groups which were previously joined to a school and were also viewable to school members Bebo also gave an option to convert existing Authors or Bands to Groups. This conversion takes up to 24 hours as the profile must be manually changed by a member of Bebo staff.

Face book is an online social networking service, whose name stems from the colloquial name for the book given to students at the start of the academic year by some university administrations in the United States to help students get to know each other.

It was founded in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow Harvard University students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chirs Hughes.

Users must register before using the site, after which they may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile. Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups, organized by workplaces, school or college, or other characteristics, and categorize their friends into lists such as “People from Work” or “Close Friends”.
Users can create profiles with photos, lists of personal interests, contact information, and other personal information. Users can communicate with friends and other users through private or public messages and a chat feature. They can also create and join interest groups and “like pages” (called “fan pages” until April 19, 2010), some of which are maintained by organizations as a means of advertising. The user page is set up in a minimal fashion with blue as the main color. This was done because Zuckerberg is red-green colorblind.
Linked In is a social networking website for people in professional occupations. Founded in December 2002 and launched on May 5, 2003, it is mainly used for professional networking. As of June 2013, LinkedIn reports more than 225 million acquired users in more than 200 countries and territories.
LinkedIn’s CEO is Jeff Weiner, previously a Yahoo! Ink, executive. The company was founded by Reid Hoffman and founding team members from PayPal and Socialnet.com (Allen Blue, Eric Ly, Jean-Luc Valliant, Lee Howler, Konstantin Guericke, Stephen Blitzed, David Eves, Ian Mc Nish, Yan Pupate, and Chris Saccharin).

One purpose of the site is to allow registered users to maintain a list of contact details of people with whom they have some level of relationship, called Connections. Users can invite anyone (whether a site user or not) to become a connection. However, if the invitee selects “I don’t know” or “Spam”, this counts against the inviter. If the inviter gets too many of such responses, the account may be restricted or closed.

Blogster is a blogging community that features specific-interest blogs. Blogster maintains an online community of users who publish content, images, video and more. Blogster members can network and collaborate by creating a blog, building a personalized profile, creating friend lists, commenting on articles and interacting in an online community.

Blogster is positioned on simplicity, and easy-to-use settings options. Compared to other blogging services, Blogster differentiates itself as having spam-free blogs.
The domain name www.blogster.com was first purchased in 2004 by Triangle Innovations.
The domain was purchased by Arthur Frisch man of Delray Beach, FL at the end of 2004, developed in to a blogging community with over 15,000 members by the end of 2005.

A unique characteristic on Blogster features a combination of blogging and social networking. Users create both their profiles and their blogs. They can also add other users with the same interests as friends, chat with other users, join groups, upload photos on a gallery, and even incorporate their blog RSS feed, Twitter and Flicker accounts.
